Traffic to one of my sites has increased approximately 300%.
That’s good, but then I nearly made a stoopid IM faux pas. More on that in a minute.
I eventually realized that the reason traffic had increased so much was less to do with what I had done…
… and more to do with what GOOGLE had done.
Or more accurately what my competitors had done to fall out of favour of with Google.
A certain kind of link building falls to mind.
Looks like getting lazy with my off-page SEO paid off in the end, eh?!
Now I need to make the most of this window of opportunity. There’s no way the competition is going to sit there and do nothing.
I need to use this time to update, improve and build a list with the extra numbers of visitors hitting my site daily.
In a white hat manner.
Then I nearly made a stoopid effing’ mistake that puts me amongst the bottom feeders of the IM world.
I nearly went and started bragging about how I was profiting from the recent Panda-Penguin double act.
The reality is, I have one site doing better while two or three are starting to drop in the rankings.
They say every cloud has a silver lining.
I think the opposite is true too.
When life gives you lemons, make lemondade.
And don’t believe the hype.
If anyone is really making ‘bank’ from the Panda-Penguin comedy act…
… they’re not telling you about the other sites that went the same way as the Titanic.
OR they’re the ones cashing in selling SEO short-cuts. Why anyone would buy anything on SEO right now — while the dust is waiting to settle and there is (inevitably) another round of changes coming — is beyond me.
Best advice, just go and build a decent site and invest in finding new ways to diversify your traffic.
